Southern Sydney Summer Series

The Southern Sydney Summer Series finished in December 2017 with IKO hosting two of the 8 events.  A big thank you to Kev Curby for organising the event at Monterey and to Margaret Duguid for the event at Rushcutter’s Bay.  32 competitors took part on the map at Monterey, a cool day but comfortable running on Kev’s well set course. Forty-one people participated on the inner eastern suburb map of Rushcutter’s Bay that had been extended to the west to take in the sights and delights of Kings Cross and Woolloomooloo and to challenge runners with the hill climb.  These 45 minute score events are well worth a try and a lot of fun.

Congratulations to Sue Froude and Nathan Ardren for coming in 1st place in their categories across the 2017 series.

Last events of the year

Darling Point views to Double Bay

I hope everyone can join us for the last two events of the year.

This weekend (Sunday 3rd December) IKO is organising a Southern Sydney Summer Series event at Double Bay. Organiser Margaret Duguid is promising mesmerising harbour views, and interesting streets and laneways of Potts Point and Kings Cross to explore.  Sounds like a great way to spend a summer afternoon.

On Saturday 9th December it is our club christmas party !  Come along for a laid-back afternoon of orienteering around Kiama Downs, the home territory of the Jays and the Greens.  We’ll share our great scenery and coastal views, and if the weather is good there is time for a cool off at the beach or the Minnamurra River.  Margaret and Keith are kindly hosting a Christmas dinner for the club – bring along some Christmas food for the buffet.

Full details of events on Eventor.

Welcome to new club members

Welcome to new club members Chris and Tara, and their children Isaac (13), Ella (11) and Isla (7). Chris and his family joined IKO in September and live in Stanwell Tops.

The family were introduced to orienteering in 2013 by their Grandad who is a keen orienteer from the United Kingdom.  He came to visit for a month and brought the family along to one of our local events.

Please say Hi and give them a warm welcome if you see them at any of our coming events.

And while I’m here, how good do our new club flags look?  Sensational!  Much thanks to Margaret Duguid for organising these.

Summergong Week 2 Results

Summergong 2 at Thirroul attracted quite a crowd.

Its been a SIZZLING start to this year’s Summergong with heatwave conditions adding an extra challenge for competitors in both Event 1 last week and Event 2 today.

Event 1 at Wollongong attracted 15 competitors/groups with the day being won by Simon who collected 540 points. Today at Thirroul there was a pleasing increase in numbers with 28 competitors/groups.  The cloud cover meant we avoided the worst of the NSW heatwave, and a cool change brought further relief towards the end of the morning. Philip collected all 600 points for a convincing win and is the current series leader.  The results for both events are on Eventor.  The cumulative point score can be viewed here Summergong point score – after 2 events

Thanks to Salme for once again hosting the club AGM which was held after  today’s event.  All previous incumbents were re-elected to their positions. Congratulations to Simon for being Club Champion for 2016.
