First event for 2024 – 3rd January Cooper Park

IKO is starting the 2024 season with a bang
Illawarra Kareelah Orienteers are hosting Sydney Summer Series event #14 on Wednesday 3rd January in Cooper Park (photo).
Think meandering pathways, bridges, grottoes in this riparian forest area encompassed by streets and laneways of Woollahra and Bellevue Hill.
This is a score event (30 controls) and will test your skills in choosing a route that will maximise your points.

An enlarged version of the bushland reserve will be on the flip side of the map to make it easier for competitors to read and navigate through.

Access in the reserve requires orienteers to keep to the pathways at all times.

For details see https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/19365

It will be well worth the effort of travelling up to Sydney for this event.

IKO is organising the following event on Sunday the 29th October at Yarra Bay with new club member Ewan Barnett setting the courses. See details at https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/19141

Its an ideal place to have a swim so pack your swimmers with your O gear and have a dip after the event.

Next event Cordeaux Heights 14 October

Our next orienteering event in the Illawarra is at Sheargold Park in Cordeaux Heights this Saturday 14 October. That’s right, you can do your democratic duty and then come along and explore the local parks and waterways. And there might just be a few hills! Our course setter Ken has designed this as a score event so depending on your route choice you may be above to AVOID the hills.

All info is HERE on Eventor. Please note there are no toilets at Sheargold Park.

Start any time from 3 – 4pm. Club members welcome at the Mills Cordeaux Heights residence for dinner.

Bush orienteering in Appin

Georges River at Appin

Our next event is approaching fast on Sunday 3 September. Yes, what every outdoor-loving Dad wants for Father’s Day this year is a trip to Appin to enjoy some scenic bushland along the Georges River.

This event is perfect for families and those looking for an easy introduction to bush orienteering. Georges River is a delight, and as this is prime koala habitat you might even spot a furry local if you are lucky.

IKO is hosting this event on behalf of Southern Highlands Orienteers as part of their annual Highland Forest Series. More information and entry here Highlands Forest Series #5 – Appin

After the event you can treat Dad to a pie from the Appin Bakery or a meal at the Appin Pub (both highly recommended).
