Head on up to Scarborough Park, Barton Street, Monterey, next Sunday afternoon the 12th November for the next River and Bay Orienteering Series (RBOS) event organised by Illawarra Kareelah Orienteers. Three line courses and a score course will be available with starts from 4pm – 5pm. Newcomers, whether you are a walker or a runner, are most welcome to come along and join in. Club members will be available to introduce you to the sport and guide you on your way. River and Bay Orienteering Series 2023 starts 22 October
Illawarra Kareelah Orienteers (IKO) join forces with Uringa Orienteers and NSW Stingers to present the annual River Bay Orienteering Series centered around Botany Bay and the Cooks River. Events are run each Sunday afternoon from 22nd October to 3rd December with starts from 4pm – 5pm. Both line courses and a score course are offered with a short course for the very young and the very old. Next event Cordeaux Heights 14 October
Our next orienteering event in the Illawarra is at Sheargold Park in Cordeaux Heights this Saturday 14 October. That’s right, you can do your democratic duty and then come along and explore the local parks and waterways. And there might just be a few hills! Our course setter Ken has designed this as a score event so depending on your route choice you may be above to AVOID the hills.

Bush orienteering in Appin
Our next event is approaching fast on Sunday 3 September. Yes, what every outdoor-loving Dad wants for Father’s Day this year is a trip to Appin to enjoy some scenic bushland along the Georges River.
This event is perfect for families and those looking for an easy introduction to bush orienteering. Georges River is a delight, and as this is prime koala habitat you might even spot a furry local if you are lucky.
IKO is hosting this event on behalf of Southern Highlands Orienteers as part of their annual Highland Forest Series. More information and entry here Highlands Forest Series #5 – Appin
After the event you can treat Dad to a pie from the Appin Bakery or a meal at the Appin Pub (both highly recommended).
New map debut – Shell Cove
Our next local event is on Saturday 12 August on our brand new map at Shell Cove. Come and explore the Hamptons of the Illawarra! OK, so I just made that bit up, but if you like water views and coastal real estate then this map should keep you happy.
The highly anticipated Shell Cove Marina is a brand new residential and marina development in Shellharbour. Away from the waterfront there’s lots of little pocket parks and wetlands to explore. Our starting point is a lovely playground a short walk from the marina complex.
There are 3 courses on offer – short, medium and long – and all provide a good mix of marina and parkland scenery. Our map maker has been hard at work perfecting the new map. Its quite complex and there are lots of pathways and tracks so please be gentle with us if you find something missing!
Afterwards we can retire to the Waterfront Tavern for drinks and dinner so please let me know if you’d like to join us (RSVP Dayle 0422 866 853)
