MetrO League #5 Sunday 1 September

A reminder that the next MetrO League teams event is on this coming Sunday morning at Nurragingy Reserve, Doonside.  See https://onsw.asn.au/ for details.

All club members are eligible and encouraged to participate.  Enter through Eventor at  https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/20290 Tip:  You will need to log in to Eventor first & then check the drop down boxes to nominate Illawarra Kareelah Orienteers & select a Division that best suits your ability before proceeding to payment.  

For those club members new to MetrO League, come along and give it a try.  It is a lot of fun. Division 6 is entry level and is graded Easy, Divisions 3-5 are Moderate and Divisions 1 & 2 are Hard navigation.  This is a teams event, however you can still pre-enter as an individual runner if you prefer.  You may be approached on the day if teams are short.   Likewise if we have too many for teams you may be asked to run up (or down if appropriate) a division or you can just compete as an individual runner for that day.

Club members who have previously advised they are available for a team, please let our club captain James Stuart know if you can’t attend,  if you haven’t already done so. Email James at IKOrienteers@gmail.com


Metro League events coming up in the next two weeks

Metro League round #4 Sunday 28 July at Beacon Hill  

All club members are eligible and encouraged to participate in the next Metroleague event this coming Sunday on the Clay Pan map at Beacon Hill.  Enter through Eventor https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/20289 .  Entries close 5pm Saturday 27 July.  Tip:  Log in to Eventor first & then check the drop down boxes to nominate Illawarra Kareelah Orienteers & select a Division that best suits your ability before proceeding to payment.

Metro League #1 Sunday 4th August at Appin

This event, organised by IKO, has been rescheduled from 7th April when it was postponed due to localised flooding of the Georges River. All members are encouraged to attend. Those members volunteering to help on the day will be able to enter the event and have a run, but you need to pre-enter and let our Club Captain James Stuart know at ikorienteers@gmail.com. Entries close at Midnight 3 August.

New members are especially welcome to come along and find out what it’s all about. If you haven’t done bush orienteering before we suggest you enter Division 6. Otherwise turn up and compete in one of enter on the day courses that will be available. There will club members on hand to help you with your bush navigation. Next Club Event – Berry Saturday 6th July

Join us this Saturday 6th July in the historical village of Berry for a run/walk on the new East Berry map. Start/assembly area is at “Berry Tennis Club” – access off North Street, Berry. Three line courses will be available – long 5.5Km, medium 3.5km, short / kids 1.5km. Starts are from 2.00pm to 3.00pm.

Come sprint with us!

On 29th June IKO is hosting the NSW Sprint Championships on the campus of the University of Wollongong. Planner David Green has been working hard to make sure the maps are up to date and the courses are both fun and challenging. Previously we have hosted the Schools Championships at the Uni in 2017 which was a raging success.

Wollongong Uni is a lovely campus with the usual tricky navigation between buildings and some lovely gardens and bushland for greenery.

Start times for the sprint championship will be allocated between 12:30-1:15pm. After the main event competitors have the option of sticking around for a 3-person relay. Form your own teams of 3 on the day for a quick 1.5km sprint just for fun (no pre-entry needed). Presentations for the NSW Sprints will be held at 3pm after the relay.

IKO Club members are encouraged to lend a hand on the day to make sure all goes smoothly.

Metroleague #1 Postponed

Due to the current high water levels in the Georges River at Appin IKO have made the decision to postpone our event tomorrow. As the course involves multiple crossings of the river safety is our number one concern. An alternative date will be arranged soon. Stay safe and dry!
